Is Freeing The Pixie Worth It?

Essentially, there are no downside to freeing the pixie from the lantern. You will receive the Pixie’s blessing after selecting appropriate dialogue options after inspecting the lantern and you will be free to roam the entirety of the shadow cursed islands without being affected by the curse.

The faerie’s blessing covers your entire party, and freeing the pixie comes with no notable disadvantages to you in the long run, so it’s best to do that if only you get the chance. Additionally, if the pixie is still alive in the Act 3, this can help you out in one of the upcoming missions.

How To Get The Pixie Blessing?

Here is how to get the faerie’s blessing after you get your hands on the Moonlantern by defeating the drider Kar’niss.

1. Ensure that you have the Moonlantern in your inventory.
2. Equip the Moonlantern in your main weapon slot of your active character.
3. A new “Inspect Moonlantern” option will appear on your actions bar, select it to start the conversation with the pixie.
4. Select the “Release the pixie” dialogue option.
5. You will receive the Filigreed Feywild Bell. Use it to call upon the pixie should you lose the blessing at any points, and you will receive the pixie’s blessing for your whole party!

After doing this, the Pixie will now be free and that’s probably the best outcome – while her attitude might be difficult to bear at times, she won’t deceive you and she’ll give you full immunity to all levels of the shadow curse which will be indicated by the “Faerie’s Blessing” status near your party members avatars.

What To Do To Get The Pixie Blessing Back?

Keep in mind that the immunity will wear off on certain conditions (such as traveling to a different region), and then you’ll have to use the bell that the pixie gave you and go through a short dialogue with her to get the blessing back.

Why Do I Not See The “Inspect Moonlantern” Option?

If you don’t see the option to inspect the Moonlantern anywhere on your GUI, it is most likely because you don’t have it equipped in the main weapon slot of your active character.

Can You Get Rid Of The Pixie?

Well actually, yes. And the interesting part is that after that, the Moon Lantern will still remain fully functional and protect you from the shadow curse, albeit you will lose the chance to receive the blessing completely as the pixie will no longer be alive.

To do this, you only need to select the “Turn the mechanism” option twice. After the second time the mechanism is activated, the pixie will turn to “a tangle of blood, bones and broken wings”, as the game will tell you without any hesitation.

What Are The Best Ways To Protect Yourself From The Shadow Curse?

Besides the pixie blessing there are a few different ways to partially protect the characters in your party from taking damage from the shadow curse. Here are the most popular ones, and yes, all of them have to do with different types of light sources.

• Torches & All Light Generating Spells and Items – These can protect the characters which are in the range of the light generated by the magic spell (like Dancing Lights), or an item (such as The Blood of Lathander).
• Blessing of Selune – You can receive it after talking to Isobel and advancing the story in the Last Light Inn. Be careful though, talking to Isobel automatically starts an important fight! This method also does not protect you from all the levels of the shadow curse.
• Moon Lantern – After killing the drider Kar’niss at any point of your gameplay you can loot the Moon Lantern from his body. The effects of the lantern are almost the exact same as the pixie blessing, but the lantern works only in for character who are walking within its light and it must be held by one of the members of your party.
• Faerie’s Blessing – Finally, the faerie/pixie’s blessing, which as you’ve just learned can be achieved by freeing the pixie imprisoned in the Moonlantern. This gives full shadow curse protection to all the members of your party.
