Browsing X (formerly Twitter) without an account or the app is still possible, but it has become much more difficult over the past year. Since many new changes have been introduced to the platform, it is much more difficult to scroll through posts, follow links, or even search for specific content without being immediately hit with a login prompt. Luckily, there are still a few effective methods, especially those using third-party tools, that let you access public X content privately and without signing up.
In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how to at least partially bypass the login walls on X to view posts, profiles and threads using a few different privacy-friendly methods. Let’s get to it.

TL;DR – The Best Search Tools I Found
- Nitter – A privacy-focused, open-source alternative front-end for X. It’s fast, ad-free, and doesn’t require an account, but if the instance you are using hits its rate limits, you may need to find another one (and there are only a few in total).
- Sotwe – A simple, fast, and effective web viewer that lets you browse profiles, see trending topics, and even download media from tweets.
- Snaplytics – Another clean, straightforward search engine for X (and many other social media platforms), great for looking up user profiles and their recent tweets without having to log in.
1. Using Nitter

Nitter is a free and open-source alternative front-end for X that focuses on privacy. It allows you to view timelines, tweets, and profiles without ads or tracking. It’s also very lightweight, has great mobile support, and doesn’t require JavaScript to function.
It’s important to understand that Nitter’s functionality is in a constant cat-and-mouse game with X. Historically, Nitter instances would “scrape” public content, but as X has tightened its API access, all Nitter instances now rely on dummy guest accounts to fetch data. These accounts are provided by the people who decide to host a Nitter instance themselves.
While the main Nitter instance has faced some downtime in recent months, the project is still active, and there are still a few public instances available. If one instance is down, you can simply try another. Keep in mind that the reliability of these can vary, but they remain one of the most popular ways to browse X anonymously.
2. Utilizing Third-Party X/Twitter Viewers
Aside from Nitter, over the years several third-party websites have emerged that allow you to browse X content without an account. Some of these have existed even when X was still called Twitter. Most of these platforms provide a simple user interface and search tools that allow you to find people, profiles, and search for hashtags or post tags without the need for an X account. Here are some of the most popular ones:
1. Sotwe

Sotwe is one of the most well-known X web viewers as of now, and it lets you explore latest trending topics, hashtags, and user profiles without needing to log in. You can do searches by usernames, hashtags, post contents, or places. It also offers the ability to download media from tweets, which is a handy feature as well. Let’s get to the second tool with pretty similar capabilities.
2. Snaplytics

While Snaplytics offers a whole lot of different social media tools, its X viewer is particularly useful. Much like Sotwe, it allows you to view profiles, search for users, and look at individual tweets, all without having a X/Twitter account. There is also a simple image download option for every post you visit. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, and the tool is very straightforward and works fast.
3. Twoucan

For those interested in the more creative side of X, Twoucan is an even better tool to consider using. It’s a Japanese aggregator that specializes in showcasing illustrations, manga, cosplay, and other types of visual art posted on the platform. It’s a great way to discover new artists, as well as enjoy and track the work of the artists you know without having an X account. Just mind that the website’s interface is in Japanese! Following the model of Twoucan, another similar tool is Twicomi, which focuses on trending manga and art from all over X.
3. Relying on Simple Google Search Operators

One of the most straightforward ways to find X content without an account is by using Google’s search operators. By using the “site:” operator in your Google queries, you can narrow down your results to only show pages from X. This method, however simple it is, can still give you access to a lot of interesting content posted on the platform, and is particularly useful when it comes to searching for specific images.
If you want to find tweets about a certain topic, you could search for: site:x.com "keyword", including the parentheses if you want to search for exact multi-word phrases. This will show you a list of relevant tweets from that user, which you can then click on to view. This method is surprisingly effective for finding specific information without having to navigate X’s login walls, but has one major downside: it won’t be able to uncover any content that Google’s search engine has not already indexed.
4. Direct URL Profile Access

The last method for gaining access to X profiles without relying on the X’s internal search engine, and accessing any 3rd party tools is to visit the profiles of the people or brands that interest you directly, via their URLs. If you know the direct URL of a public X profile, you can simply paste it into your browser to view their tweets. For example, typing https://x.com/username will take you directly to that user’s profile page.
While this method is simple, using it you will most likely encounter a login wall after scrolling through a few tweets or interacting with a few website elements. Besides, the X profiles viewed using this method will often only showcase the “most relevant” posts of the targeted profile, without letting you sort the posts by date, or browse through them freely. You will also not be able to see comments, reposts, or quotes if you’re not registered. Still, for a quick look at a user’s bio or general content they post, it’s good for what it is.
Bonus: Creating a Dummy Account With Temp Email

While the focus of this guide is on browsing X without an account, it’s worth mentioning the option of creating a “dummy” account here. This method allows you to access all of X’s features without revealing any of your personal information to the platform.
For creating a dummy X/Twitter account, it’s best to use more niche temporary email websites which aren’t blocked by the site, or services such as Gmailinator, which let you use email inboxes which are whitelisted by most popular websites.
This way, you can create a throwaway account that isn’t tied to your real identity. If you need even more privacy, you can do all this while accessing the web via a VPN of your choice.
While this method does technically involve creating an account, it’s a good workaround for those who need to access features that are only available to logged-in users, such as viewing private accounts or interacting with content. Note that X’s terms of service may not permit this, and such accounts may be suspended without prior notice.
You can do all this without letting X take any of your private info, and your dummy account can simply be abandoned without any trouble once you want to get rid of it or you no longer need it, or deleted, if you still have access to your temporary mailbox once you’re done using it. Note that for now, X doesn’t let you deactivate or delete your account if you don’t have access to the associated email address. That’s about it!
